“Church World Service was born in 1946, in the aftermath of World War II. Seventeen denominations came together to form an agency “to do in partnership what none of us could hope to do as well alone.”  The mission: Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, comfort the aged, shelter the homeless." 

 

"For nearly half a century, CROP Hunger Walks have ensured that more people worldwide have access to nutritious, sustainable food sources.  From combating droughts in Nicaragua to providing agricultural training in Indonesia to stocking shelves in hundreds of food pantries across the United States, CROP Hunger Walks help end hunger by raising funds to support local food programs and the international anti-hunger work of Church World Service.”

 

The CWS Blankets program provides badly needed warmth by distributing blankets to those who need them. The recipients of these blankets include refugee families fleeing their homes, families recovering from disasters, and more.  In 2015, CWS distributed 7820 blankets around the world.

FPUPC and CWS- CROP Hunger Walk

Each fall, members and friends of FPUPC participate in the Dutchess Interfaith CROP Walk.  Some of us put on our walking shoes and actually do the 10 km walk.  Others participate as organizers and support staff for the walk.  And still others support the walkers by pledging their financial support to them.

FPUPC is blessed to be recognized as being among the organizations that have raised the most money for CROP each year and to have as a member of our congregation an individual who is recognized as being among those who have raised the most money for CROP each year.

FPUPC and CWS- Blankets Program

​

FPUPC conducts a special free-will offering each year to raise funds to support the CWS Blankets program.  All proceeds of this offering are forwarded to CWS to provide blankets for those who need them.
