Appalachia Service Project

“Appalachia Service Project is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that inspires hope and service through volunteer home repair in Central Appalachia.”

FPUPC and ASP:

Each summer, a group of 40 to 50 volunteers from FPUPC spends a week in Appalachia repairing homes in this disadvantaged part of the country. The group normally consists of 40 young people and 10 adult worker / chaperones.

Upon arriving at the assigned work location, the participants are assigned to smaller work groups of 7 or 8 people, and each work group is assigned a home to repair and a list of repairs that need to be made to that home.

The work groups develop relationships with the families that live in the homes that they help repair and gain an appreciation of how difficult the living conditions can be in poor, rural areas of the country. The expenses of the trip are funded in part by twice-yearly rummage sales and the highly popular baked potato and chili cook-off.
